Soft white volumes and gentle light define this former merchant residence, now transformed into a contemporary retreat in the authentic heart of the Algarve.

Set beside a 16th-century cathedral in a village largely untouched by mass tourism, the home preserves its historical soul while embracing a refined modern sensibility.

Part of Atelier Rua’s The Addresses collection, the project reflects the studio’s ability to approach heritage architecture with respect, enhancing its identity without altering its essence.

Originally built in 1937 as merchant quarters, the house unfolds across multiple levels in traditional local style: sun-reflecting white façades, matte interiors with soft vaulted ceilings, and pared-back spaces enriched by organically shaped furnishings.

A secluded inner patio hosts a petite plunge pool, while the rooftop terrace opens onto terracotta rooftops and the silhouette of the church bell tower, offering an intimate perspective over the village.

The architectural intervention focuses on natural materials, a neutral palette, and carefully curated details, blending historical character with the discreet comforts of high-end hospitality.

Alongside Casa Um, Casa Dois, and Casa Três, Casa Quatro contributes to a cohesive narrative: homes that weave together history, place, and contemporary design, giving renewed purpose to spaces rich in meaning.
